On April 11th, 2023 at around 4:35 pm, a collision occurred on I-635 at milepost 3.8 Northbound in Wyandotte County, Kansas. The accident involved two vehicles, a 2008 Dodge Caravan and a 2005 Chrysler Sebring, both registered in Missouri. The driver of the Dodge Caravan, identified as Jeffrey J. Hughes of Raytown, Missouri, was traveling southbound in lane 4 when he changed lanes and struck the Chrysler Sebring, which was also traveling southbound in lane 3.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol Report, the impact caused Hughes to lose control of his vehicle, which then collided with the left concrete barrier before drifting and hitting the right barrier wall. The Caravan came to a rest on the highway, while the Sebring was able to pull over to the side of the road. The driver of the Chrysler Sebring was identified as Cadence L. Campbell of Kansas City, Missouri.
First responders arrived at the scene and transported Hughes to the KU Medical Center. He was suspected to have suffered serious injuries. Meanwhile, Campbell did not appear to have any injuries and was not taken to a hospital.
This incident serves as a reminder for all drivers to exercise caution on the road and to be aware of their surroundings. Changing lanes abruptly and without signaling can be dangerous and may result in accidents.
