Multi-Vehicle Crash on I35 Northbound Leaves Several Injured

On April 12, 2023, a multi-vehicle crash on I35 Northbound at Mission Road in Wyandotte County resulted in several injuries. The accident happened at around 1:35 pm near milepost 233.6 and caused traffic delays on I35 Northbound for several hours.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol Report, Delisia Ramirez-Ochoa was traveling in lane 2 in her 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe. Josue Kanyefu was traveling in his 2013 Hyundai Elantra to the right of her in lane 3. Delisia then abruptly made a lane change to the right and sideswiped Mr. Kanyefu’s vehicle, causing him to slow down as a result of the impact. Domingo Martinez, who was traveling behind Mr. Kanyefu in lane 3, was unable to slow down in time and collided with the rear of Mr. Kanyefu’s 2013 Hyundai Elantra.

After the collision, Delisia’s vehicle ran off the road to the right, struck a guardrail and overturned. Mrs. Ramirez-Ochoa and one of her occupants, Selena Reynolds, were both transported to KU Medical Center with suspected minor injuries.

Mr. Kanyefu and Mr. Martinez did not sustain any apparent injuries and were not transported to a hospital. Mrs. Ramirez-Ochoa, who caused the accident, did not have insurance.
