Three Injured in Missouri Car Crash Caused by Failure to Yield

On April 3rd, 2023, an accident occurred on US 50 EB at NW 1201st Rd in Johnson County, Missouri. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident involved two vehicles, a 2007 Honda Accord and a 1995 Ford LA9000.

The driver of the Honda Accord, identified as John L. Herrera, 56, was traveling eastbound on US 50 when the Ford LA9000, driven by Paul A. Dillon, 62, failed to yield at the intersection and pulled into the path of Herrera’s vehicle. The Accord struck the driver’s side of the Ford LA9000, causing it to skid off the south side of the roadway and come to rest facing southwest.

The Honda Accord continued southbound before coming to a stop on NW 1201st Rd. The impact of the collision was so severe that the Accord sustained total damage, while the Ford LA9000 suffered moderate damage. The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed that the Ford LA9000 was driven away from the scene, while the Honda Accord was towed by Ron’s Towing.

The accident resulted in three individuals sustaining injuries. The driver of the Honda Accord, John L. Herrera, was transported to Research Medical Center in Kansas City for treatment of serious injuries. Two passengers in the Honda Accord, identified as Yvette J. Herrera, 52, and a juvenile female, 17, were transported to Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg for treatment of moderate injuries.

All occupants of the Honda Accord were wearing their safety devices at the time of the accident. The driver of the Ford LA9000, Paul A. Dillon, was not wearing a safety device. The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirms that the incident was caused by the failure of the Ford LA9000 to yield at the intersection.

This accident serves as a reminder to all drivers to pay close attention to traffic signals and road signs and to always yield the right of way to other vehicles when required. Failure to do so can result in serious injuries and damage to vehicles. It is important to always wear your safety devices while driving to minimize the risk of injuries in the event of an accident.
