On April 12th, 2023, a multi-vehicle accident occurred on I35 Southbound, .5 Miles South of Southwest Blvd in Wyandotte County, Kansas. The accident involved four vehicles who were all traveling southbound.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol Report, the accident started when Joelleanne Orquiola Tejada who driving her 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer failed to notice that traffic ahead had slowed. Her inattentiveness resulted in her rear-ending a 2002 Toyota Camry, driven by Maria Suarez-Vasquez, which then led to a chain reaction. The Camry was propelled forward and slammed into the back of a 2003 Toyota Tacoma driven by Zander Henderson. And as if that wasn’t enough, the Tacoma was then sent forward into the rear of a 2018 Chevy Silverado driven by James Simons.

The resulting scene was an absolute mess. The Camry suffered severe damage to its rear-end, the Tacoma sustained a significant dent on its back, and the Silverado had its tailgate bashed in. Luckily, Tejada, the driver who caused the chain reaction, seemed to have emerged unscathed. Suarez-Vasquez, on the other hand, was taken to the hospital with suspected minor injuries, while Henderson and Simons didn’t seem to suffer any apparent harm.

This accident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of always paying attention while driving, especially on highways.
